Beloved Evil

One of the most bizarre of human traits is the manic compulsion to be anywhere but the present, the moment. Or, as has been termed “In the now.” Human beings prefer to die and suffer than be in the present moment with their Self.

On the surface, and lets face it the vast majority of life is led on the surface, is what ego calls the normal state of being. Anything intimate, anything “in depth” is an anathema to ego, an abomination.

Ego cannot stand itself. That is the simple truth of it. To put it with even greater concision; ego is hate. And what does hate, hate? Everything. Including itself.

If that wasn’t gnarled enough here’s another; almost all of ego’s effort and energy is spent on camouflaging that truth. Almost all of ego’s effort and energy is spent on pretending to love and desiring to be loved.

The good news is that no pretense can be sustained.Trying to do it is like putting lipstick on a pig and calling it sweetheart. It doesn’t work. It never has worked, and it never will work. But ego perseveres.

Why does ego persevere? Because ego is insane. As Einstein stated, Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results! A perfect definition of ego that.

For two thousand years humanity has been banging on about Jesus and Buddha and those like them; about love, peace, glory of god, glory of the Universe, glory of this and that and what do we still have? Same stuff we had two thousand years ago. Different scenery, faster transportation, more sophisticated means of hate, war and destruction, but the same evil still lurks.

Why haven’t we eradicated this will than? This will that brings about the continuance of evil in the world in which we live?

Let’s begin the answer with a question. If a car is being driven along a country road, and it coldies with a tree, who is at fault, the car or the driver? The driver is responsible right?

Your will is like the car, it takes you where you want it to take you. The will has no mind or desire of its own. It is a neutral mechanism that will take you to either heaven or hell, good or bad, sickness or health, love or hate. It does not discriminate.

Next logical question is, If will is driving the evil, who, or what, is driving the will?

And the answer is You. You are driving the will, which drives the evil, which in turn keeps you out of happiness. When this is pointed out to you, you recoil in mock horror at the very audacity of such a preposterous notion.

Okay. So while we’re at it, here’s another eye-roller for you– humanity (which is you) loves evil. It embraces it like a beloved newborn.

If you disagree, if you think the whole idea is obtuse and odious, you tell me. Why is the evil that was present two thousand years ago, and long before that most likely, still here? And why is your own life such a constant struggle?

Because- Only a thing loved and cherished survives beyond time itself.

Want things to be different? Change your will.

Until tomorrow,
