I did it My Way
Doing your life, your way, is the great dream. People get that faraway, wistful, dreamy look in the eye when talking about it, the look that says, I wish, but …
… but what?
But reality fool. You’ve got to put food on the table, drive the kids to football, get the shopping done, work, sit in the traffic jam, visit mum, wash the dog, pick up after the dog, cook dinner for the family, watch the news, Face Book, sleep …
You’d think that living your life, your way, would be as natural as breathing. Not so however. In fact living life, as things stand is more like breathing poison. The stress, forced smiles, putting up with people you would love to smack in face and doing things you don’t really want to do eats away at you from the inside. It all builds up until you feel like you’re going to explode, or you get sick, or drunk, or stoned, or whatever it takes to escape the heaviness for a while.
Whenever I write, or talk about this subject, I’m reminded of what’s often reported as the number one deathbed regret; I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
The saddest thing is that for the majority of the human race living life you way is not possible. It’s a long ago given up on ideal. That in itself is a killer of life and happiness.
The question is a good one though. Is it possible to live ones life in accordance with ones own wishes? The right life, if you like?
The answer is No – and – Yes.
No – it isn’t possible if you try rearranging your ego life. You may have some seeming success but it will be short lived and you’ll be like Al Pacino in the Godfather movie when he says, “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.”
And Yes – it is definitely possible if you work on reconnecting with the Self and disengaging from ego.
Life as we know it day to day is not only difficult to manage, it is totally geared against you living it your way. Try doing it within the ego spectrum and you’ll be the worst person ever to draw breath. Friends and family, colleagues and bosses, everyone, will call you arrogant, selfish, rude and even evil. And they will continue doing it until you give in.
Do it thru reconnecting with Love, which the Higher Self is, and it will be done correctly and lovingly. There will be tough moments, however such will not be due to stress and attack, it will be due to your shedding blocks and undoing what needs to be undone so as to rise, permanently, into the Ultimate Freedom. And then, when your time comes to make the transition into Forever, you’ll do it with a smile and a happy heart, for you will have done it Your Way.
