Headstones v Lovestones

Many years ago I worked as a sales manager at a transport company. One day I was spending time in the field with one of my new salespeople. In the car between appointments, talk somehow turned to religion and she started telling me about being reborn, and how Jesus saved her.

Fair enough, I thought. Jesus had a reputation for doing that. Cool.

She then went on to tell me that she thought me a good man: caring, thoughtful, a good trainer, great listener and all that.

I thanked her and tried moving on but that’s when she switched gears on me and launched into the, BUT you need to be saved too, admonition and reproof sermon.

That was the first time I’d experienced the fervor and zeal of a full-blown, born again, loony tune.

The real worry was she went from complementary to critical-serious so quick she made Usain Bolt look like a garden snail. I could tell she was serious by the telltale bulge of both eyes, the fast reddening cheeks and spittle forming around the corners of the mouth.

Unless I stopped sinning right now, gave my life over to Jesus, got onto the path and started drinking from the well, I was going to be a contemptible failure in this life! And that was the good news!

After death was when the real pain and torment was going to kick in. I was going to be Satan’s bitch in the fiery pits of hell for like, EVER! An experience that would make Gordon Ramsay’s kitchen nightmare seem like a dreamy moonlight stroll with a fluffy souffle in hand.

In the end I had to firmly remind the women possessed by love and faith that ours was a business relationship and there would be no more talk about religion. Ever.

She didn’t stay with the company very long. I can’t recall the reason she gave for leaving but I’m thinking that perhaps working for a heathen boss didn’t sit well.

Just for the record, let me say that I have no issue with people opting to follow a religion. As far as I’m concerned it’s all about Live and Let Live.

Furthermore, it is a fact that many find comfort and a level of peace within the various religious dogmata. To those folks their religion is it. And so be it. People have a right to believe whatever they want and practice whatever they like. It would be kinda neighborly though if they saw fit to offer others equal opportunity and respect.

Unfortunately far too often religious people want to force-feed their beliefs down others throats. Remember the missionaries? The Middle East right now, the Spanish Inquisition? The pesky folks door knocking with the good book in hand?

Granted, religions like Buddhism and Taoism are not in the same league of torment, viciousness and obsession as Judaism, Christianity and Islam and their various offshoots, however, religion by design and objective is neither freedom focused or spiritual.

The moment someone says they are religious the very first question to pop into mind is, which religion? There is something profoundly wrong with that and the reason religion rouses rancor rather than redemption.

For something that professes to heal and unite, religion in reality divides, fractures and engenders deep hatreds.

The funny thing is every religion will tell you that there is only one god. Theirs. And the way to prove it, gods must go to war! Unfortunately when gods go to war, it’s the people that do the suffering and the dying. You don’t hear about too many deities with missing limbs, wheelchairs and suffering posttraumatic stress disorder. Or politicians or priests for that matter.

Religions are big on preaching and proclaiming love and peace, as core tenets but slip as easily into murder and persecution as a foot slips into a favourite well-worn slipper.

Equality is another fundamental principle, as long as you have a penis and a beard and aren’t black. Or at least a penis; everyone knows women folk just aren’t up to it, right?

If you’re a believer and an asshole, and beg forgiveness, it’s okay, you’ll be forgiven. If you’re a relatively decent human but an atheist, well, you’ll be joining me down in the furnace room, dancing in the flames with the horny dude. According to my born-again buddy.

Funniest thing is, these folks don’t want to understand that religion killed Jesus. Think on that for a while, all you born-again-full-of-love-and-compassion folks. One of the finest spiritual teachers ever, killed by religious zombies.

Comparing religion with spirituality is like comparing headstones with love-stones. One buries you down deep, the other lifts you into love and divinity. Shouldn’t be a difficult choice.

See you on the bright side.

Love Light and You

Remember Colonel Gaddafi? The Libyan politician who was in total control of Libya for over 40 years? He of the colorful kaftans, the likes of which would have made any hippy proud. The man also had a quirky attachment to a tent that went with him all through Europe and the US. A colorful scoundrel he was. He also rocked a golden pistol on his hip, adding dash and zhuzh with just a hint of menace.

Various people referred to the self appointed Colonel by any number of monikers, like revolutionary, visionary, Picasso of the Middle East. As well as some not so nice ones, like Mad Dog of Middle East, brutal dictator, butcher, murderer and so on.

I came across an article the other day, accompanied with mobile phone footage showing the Colonel’s last moments on earth. Surrounded by rebels, or Libya’s liberators, depending on which side one favors, bleeding profusely and begging for his life. A miserable image of a man about to be executed, by his own golden gun no less, it has been suggested.

This is another fine example of ego doing one of its own in by means ugly, brutal and repulsive. There are no happy endings in the ego state of mind, everybody dies, some more repulsively and viciously than others however.

What a wonderful diversion-creating device mind is. A true masterpiece. Which shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, seeing how the second most powerful being in the whole of Infinity created it.

Observing mind at work, its detail and ability to mesmerize the observer is awe-inspiring. The Gaddafi story is a perfect example, his ending, in many ways being the Jesus and the cross story replayed. Give the crowds blood, guts, extreme misery and someone to cheer for. Winner!

A man, bleeding, broken and defenseless is paraded amidst a yelling, mindless, bloodlust enraptured crowd. Then he is executed and his body defiled some more for good measure. It happens on a daily, if not hourly, basis somewhere on the planet. With each act there is someone somewhere watching and vowing revenge thereby locking in another generation of war and hate. Ego celebrates. Good job.

Eyes are useless when the mind is blind, goes the saying. Indeed.

Mind has no emotion, sight, pity, feeling or objectivity. It is blind and impervious to anything human or otherwise. It simply projects whatever it is instructed to project.

In the Gaddafi example mind projects the rebels and a dictator. The rebels fight and struggle for a noble cause. During that process however they almost always commit atrocities as easily and as willingly as does the tyrant; the two are opponents in the same fighting ring, fighting by the same rules. That’s how the ego world rolls.

The world is nothing but a fighting ring with sides squaring off from opposing corners. Freethinkers in the blue corner. Slaves to religion and other dogmas in the peach-fuzz coloured corner. Businessmen and gangsters in the black corner. Paedophiles, other sex deviants, jihadi beheaders and other lower life forms in the dunce’s corner, and the war of the ego-world rages on.

You want to rise above it?

You want to be free of it?

There are only two ways to start the unhinging from the ego insanity process. Firstly- see it for what it is.

Get your head out of the ego dumpster and take a look. Seeing the reality of it is the first Must-Do step.

Just like a doctor can’t treat something she hasn’t yet diagnosed neither can you get out of something you don’t see yourself being in. If you’re doing all you can, for example, to keep yourself from going to hell, when you’re in fact already in it, you will spend your energies keeping yourself right where you are. That’s how inglorious this ego thing is.

Secondly, once you see the reality of ego, you will, almost be defult focus your energies on enlightenment. Enlightenment being a fancy way of saying, you get yourself up and above the ego shenanigans.

The way out of the ego, the unhinging from it, entails those two steps. Otherwise it’s like what happened to the Colonel bloke; ego giveth and ego taketh away.

What will happen if you don’t do anything?

You’ll continue experiencing exactly what you have been. Then when the judgment day rolls around it’ll be a simple case of the old Bosnian saying my mother often uses when talking about life: Where have you been? Nowhere. What have you achieved? Nothing.

Now wouldn’t that be a waste of a lifetime?

Wouldn’t it be way more cool to become your very own Spiritual Picasso instead, and start your very own love and light period!

See you on the bright side.

Spirituality – Another Great Lie

There is nothing good in the ego world!

Which by default means there is nothing good in ego life.

Hard to accept I know but nonetheless it is as true as any truth ever uttered.

Ego is an alternate to Love, Life, Peace and Eternity- otherwise known as Creation.

Everything in ego is an imitation of Creation. There is one small issue ego has however, Creation cannot be caricatured, forged or imitated.

Creation is reality, ego is a dream, what more can be said? Unfortunately as long as you believe ego to be your reality so it shall be. Try telling a dreamer that his nightmare isn’t real.

The crazy thing is, ego isn’t even subtle about its control mechanisms. Even its key control mechanisms are as obvious as obvious can be.

Take time for example. There you are, with all the time in the world. Next thing you know you’re staring into the mirror and asking, “Where did my life go?”

As the French composer Hector Berlioz put it, “Time is a great teacher, unfortunately it kills all its students.” And it does it so you go along, willingly, without a care in the world, until it’s too late … oops! Such is life.

Freedom is another beautifully executed lie. “Do whatever you want, whenever you want. Just do it.” You know the number one deathbed regret? I wish I’d done the things I wanted to do.

It is no different with ego’s version of religion. It offers many gods, prophets and deities. All purporting to offer love, light and salvation; as long as you believe in the one we believe in, otherwise, “Off with your head, infidel!” Ah, Tribunal del Santo Oficio is alive and well in 2016, it just goes by another name. Nothing like consistency.

Ego has its version of spirituality, naturally. Its version offers cute and fluffy, feel-good slogans and jingoisms. Sprouts lovely notions like peace on earth, perfect lovers, perfect sex, perfect health, wealth and happiness balance, soul mates and do nothing the universe provides scenarios.

Great! Except like everything else ego, its spirituality is a total lie. A filthy, grubby, insidious lie.

Look at what ego actually dishes out. And this isn’t me talking. These are easily verifiable facts.

Ethnic Cleansing in Srebrenica.

Genocide in Rwanda.

Sweatshops and child labour in developing countries.

Mass murder and sex-slavery in the Middle East.

Mass shootings in America and Australia.

Terrorist murders in France and Indonesia.

Diabolical lies told by politicians in almost all countries and methodical destruction of elements crucial to human survival, i.e. air, soil and water, all in the name of profit.

Business mercilessly exploiting the working class and making it sound and look like it is the businessman doing the workingman a favour.

Governments using police forces as storm troopers to trample all over human rights and dignities. All the while screeching that it is for the greater good.

Police forces willingly, and eagerly complying to their masters voices. Shooting to death people based on suspicion, colour and lifestyle choices.

This is what ego offers!

We must learn to see behind the talk. The talk is bullshit. Look behind the cloak and see the reality of it.

You cannot reason with ego. Trying to reason with ego is killing you.

The only way out of ego is- One, see it for what it is and- Two, let it go. Peacefully.

How to do that? By embracing the one thing ego cannot lie about, twist or change.

This is the most powerful thing in existence, next to the Creator and its creations.

That one thing is your Free Will.

Your Free Will is your true and real spirituality. This is the spirituality given and forever protected by the Creator.

You see … you get to choose between ego and Creation. Between this hate riddled world and Love.

Everything ego makes, you can unmake.

Think about that. You have the power.

There is only One, more powerful than you and He loves you now, this moment, just as He loved you the moment he created you.

Ego only controls you because you let it.

See you on the bright side.
